From Hesitation to Home Spa
When Sarah first reached out, she admitted she wasn’t sure how this whole “designer thing” worked. She and her husband had been stuck in what we lovingly call the “decision loop”—years of debating how to update their master bathroom but never quite finding common ground. The space was functional, sure, but it lacked joy, warmth, and that everyday luxury they both craved.
The turning point came when Sarah stumbled upon Design on a Dime Interiors on Yelp. A little curious and a little skeptical, she booked a consultation—and within minutes, we were laughing together like old friends. Her first words when we returned to present our design plan? “I just saw your website, and I know I can’t afford your designs.” We all shared a laugh, and that moment broke every ounce of tension in the room. What started with uncertainty quickly turned into a fun, collaborative process built on trust, creativity, and shared excitement.
What followed was nothing short of transformative. Over seven weeks, we took her outdated bathroom and turned it into a serene, spa-like escape—complete with an expanded shower, custom cabinetry, and a freestanding tub that makes every day feel like a getaway. Sarah’s final words after the reveal say it best: “You’re worth every penny.”

Design Goals: Connection, Ease, and Timelessness
Sarah and her husband had been circling around the idea of remodeling their master bathroom for years. Each time they’d start, the same question stopped them: “Where do we even begin?” Between different design opinions, busy schedules, and not knowing who to trust, the project always got pushed to the back burner.
When Sarah found Design on a Dime Interiors, she took a leap of faith. From the first meeting, we could tell she had a clear sense of what she wanted—she just needed a team to bring it to life. Her dream was simple: a master bathroom that felt fresh, open, and peaceful. A place where she could start and end her day with ease.
She envisioned a space that combined beauty with practicality. The old bathroom felt heavy and cluttered; she wanted light, flow, and purpose. A larger shower. A freestanding tub worthy of its own magazine spread. Ample storage to keep life organized and serene.
Our mission was to turn all of that into reality—bridging her wish list with our expertise, creating a space that married luxury and livability. The kind of room that makes you take a deep breath and smile the moment you walk in.
Before We Began
Before we swung a single hammer, Sarah’s master bathroom told the story of a space that had simply stopped working. The shower was narrow and boxed in, the tub felt more like an afterthought than a retreat, and clutter filled every available surface. The room carried a heavy, outdated feel—one that didn’t match Sarah’s calm, modern sensibility or her vision for something bright and rejuvenating.
Still, this wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about reclaiming function and joy in a space she used every day. Sarah was ready to finally move this project off the “someday” list and turn it into a sanctuary where practicality met beauty.
Our first step was creating a detailed plan for transformation: rethinking layout, updating finishes, and maximizing every inch of space. We wanted her to see that this wasn’t going to be an intimidating process—it was going to be an experience she could enjoy, every step of the way.
Once demo day arrived, that excitement was contagious. The old tile came up, the dated vanity came out, and the room began its journey toward something entirely new.
The Design Plan & Process
Once the design plan was approved, we moved into what I like to call the magic phase—where drawings and ideas start to take on a heartbeat. Our goal was to craft a space that felt indulgent yet effortless, turning a once-cramped bathroom into a spa-like retreat that worked for everyday life.
Demolition & Fresh Start
We began by taking the room down to its bones. The old shower and vanity came out, making way for a new, more open layout. Watching years of dated tile and cabinetry disappear felt symbolic—a clean slate for the modern comfort Sarah had dreamed of.
Cabinetry & Storage
Next came the custom cabinetry. Built for beauty and practicality, these cabinets brought instant order to a space that had long been overrun by clutter. Each drawer and shelf was intentionally planned, creating a rhythm of organization that felt calm, not clinical.
The Statement Pieces
The showstopper of this remodel was the freestanding tub—elegant, sculptural, and perfectly positioned to take center stage. Paired with a larger walk-in shower, it turned the room into a true retreat. The materials were chosen to invite light and texture: sleek quartz countertops, brushed gold fixtures, and a tile combination that whispers luxury without shouting it.
Finishing Touches
Lighting played a starring role too. Soft, layered illumination—from sconces to recessed lighting—gave Sarah the flexibility to shift from bright morning prep to soft, evening relaxation. Once the final coat of paint went up, the room felt instantly transformed—open, calm, and full of light.
Throughout it all, Sarah stayed involved and excited, often texting us mid-day with, “I can’t believe how fast it’s coming together!” That’s the kind of energy that makes every project unforgettable.
The Transformation
When the dust settled and the last light fixture was hung, Sarah’s master bathroom hardly resembled the space we started with. What was once closed off and outdated is now open, luminous, and designed for daily indulgence.
The new layout completely redefined how the space functions. The expanded shower—with its sleek glass enclosure, elegant tilework, and brushed gold fixtures—anchors one side of the room, while the freestanding tub makes a sculptural statement on the other. The balance of form and flow creates a rhythm that feels both restorative and refined.
The custom cabinetry, painted in soft neutral tones, provides the organization Sarah always longed for. Every drawer has a purpose; every surface feels intentional. The quartz countertops catch the light beautifully, adding subtle shimmer without overpowering the calm palette.
Details make all the difference: the warmth of gold hardware, the gentle sheen of the fixtures, and the layered lighting that adjusts to any mood. From morning routines to quiet evening soaks, this bathroom now adapts effortlessly to Sarah’s lifestyle.
When we revealed the finished space, Sarah’s reaction said it all—she stood there speechless for a moment before smiling through tears and saying, “And you’re worth every penny.” That single line captured everything we hope for as designers: to create beauty that moves people, not just impresses them.
Client’s Words
“I was nervous about hiring a designer—I had no idea what to expect or how much something like this would even cost. But from the very first meeting, Melody made me feel comfortable and heard. She took all my half-formed ideas and turned them into something I couldn’t have dreamed of on my own. The process was easy, fun, and surprisingly personal. Every time I walk into my bathroom now, I can’t help but smile. And yes—she’s worth every penny.”
